How this quiz works
The Horse Name Finder asks about your horse's personality, whether it has distinctive coloring or markings and whether you have a personal theme or discipline connection. It points you to classic names, spirited names, color and marking names or discipline and theme names.
Why these questions
A name is something you say hundreds of times, so it has to be easy to call, suit the horse and last. The quiz sorts names by what they reflect: dignity, personality, appearance or a shared interest.
What the quiz cannot see
It does not give a name, and it cannot know your horse. Say a name aloud, check that it does not sound like a command or like another horse at your barn, and check any registration rules and the meaning of any word from another language. Wait for a foal's adult coat before you choose a color name.
Before you decide
Try the name for a week. Call it across a field, write it on a form and say it at a show. Check that it does not sound like a command or like another horse's name, and check any registration or competition rules about names. A long registered name and a short barn name often work well together, and a barn name can come after you know the horse.
