How this quiz works
The Fence Type Finder asks what matters most to you and what your fencing budget range is. It points you to vinyl fencing, wood board fencing or woven wire with a top board.
Why these questions
Fencing is a trade-off between upfront cost, upkeep, appearance and safety. Vinyl costs more up front and needs little care, wood has a classic look and needs regular maintenance, and woven wire with a board is a budget option. Visibility matters for every type, because horses need to see the fence.
What the quiz cannot see
It cannot see your horses or land. Chewers, stallions and herds that crowd fences need stronger designs, and wire spacing has to be safe for hooves. Never use barbed wire. The Horse Fence Cost Calculator prices the run, and local codes and zoning may apply.
Before you decide
Walk the line and plan gates, corners and water before you price anything, since corners and gates cost more than straight runs. Horses need to see a fence, so add a top rail or tape to wire. Check local codes, ask for references from installers and use the fence cost calculator with your own measurements. Never use barbed wire for horses.
